The kit of indispensable tools for making dresses consists of:
Pfaff 820474096 Invisible zipper foot
Invisible zipperfoot
The invisible zipper is the only zipper that you don't notice. As the name implies, it disappears into the seam and is never seen again. For this reason it is sewn mainly on elegant garments and fine fabrics, such as evening dresses, but it is also sewn on skirts, blouses, etc.
With the special foot for invisible zippers from Pfaff they are so easy to sew !
How to sew invisible zippers?
- With chalk or an evanescent marker mark on the right side of the fabric the length of the opening for the zipper, on both sides. The zipper should be 2 to 3 cm longer than the opening where it will be sewn.
- Insert the zipper foot of your sewing machine and select straight stitch, with the needle in the center. The stitch length is 2.5 to 3.0 mm.
- Open the zipper and use your thumb to flatten the teeth so that you have a free area to sew, which is right attached to the teeth. It is not necessary to iron the zipper.
- Place the right side of the zipper on the right side of the opening. The zipper teeth should be on the traced seam line and start about 1.5 to 2 cm below the top edge of the fabric. Pin with pins if necessary. Assure that the zipper goes 2 - 3 cm above the end of the opening.
- Push the teeth of the zipper gently to the right and place the presser foot on the zipper so that the teeth are in the groove and to the right of the needle.
- Sew the zipper from the top to the end of the opening you marked and secure the seam. Close the zipper.
- Now place the other side of the zipper on the right side of the left side of the opening (always right sides together).
- Both sides with notches should start at the same height. Pin and reopen the hinge.
- Push the teeth of the zipper gently to the left and place the presser foot on the zipper so that the teeth are in the groove and to the left of the needle.
- Sew the zipper from the top to the end of the opening you marked and secure the seam. Close the zipper.
- Now close the seam under the zipper, from top to bottom. For this operation, insert the standard presser foot of your sewing machine so that the presser foot holder and the presser foot itself are securely attached to the right. Move the needle to the right.
- Turn the free bottom end of the zipper toward the seam allowance and sew as tightly as possible to the last stitch of the zipper seam.
- Iron the seam allowances open.
Tip : If the zipper is very long, sew the notches about 2 cm below the opening with straight stitch or with a thick zigzag and cut off the end of the zipper that comes out. Baste the end of the zipper with a piece of fabric.
Pfaff 820545096 Rubber band foot
Elastic foot
This guide foot, stretches elastic bands from 6 to 12 mm wide and applies them in one operation. It is used for sportswear, lingerie and other elastic insertion techniques.
Use:
- Set the gray numbered foot knob to 3 or 4. Align the number with the small metal arrow. The higher the number, the more the elastic will be pulled. The stiffness of the elastic will affect the result.
- Slightly push the gray roller toward the numbered gray knob and lift it up.
- Insert the elastic into the opening slot at the base of the presser foot.
- Rotate the roller until the center slot of the roller matches the width of the rubber band; this will guide the rubber band straight up.
- Bring the roller down on the rubber band and snap it into place by gently pushing it away from the numbered knob.
- Insert the elastic foot into the sewing machine. Set the machine for a regular zigzag stitch. Adjust the stitch width according to the width of the elastic and the length according to the quality of the elastic and the type of curl you wish to achieve.
- Engage the IDT.
- Place the fabric under the presser foot and sew. The fabric will curl as the elastic is stretched and sewn.
Pfaff 820245096 Bias foot
Biasfoot
Making a border with a bias is a very simple way to give the edges of a fabric a clean, even look. You need to have a bias-cut ribbon 24 mm wide.
Use:
- Remove the presser foot and foot holder. Insert the bias foot.
- Cut the beginning of the bias diagonally.
- Insert the ribbon into the spiral guide of the presser foot and pull it from behind.
- Arrange the fabric and/or needle position so that the needle enters the fabric about 1 to 1.5 cm from the folded edge of the bias.
- Sew about 2.5 cm along the bias.
- Insert the edge of the fabric that is to be edged with the bias between the edges of the bias into the slot of the bias foot. The bias will automatically include the raw edge when sewing.
Tip : decorative effects can be achieved with zigzag stitch or other types of stitches.
Stitch : straight or zigzag Tension : 3 - 5
