Insert a drawstring into the seams or edges of a project for a crisp, box-like finish. For special effects you can cover
the cord with a fabric.
The single cord foot and double cord foot are used to create a decorative finish on home projects such as pillows and other accessories.
They are also useful for finishing the rough edges of the upholstery that you can then attach using a dot gun. Inserting the cords is quick and easy. The single cord foot works exactly like the profiling foot but is designed for wider cords.
Create finishes in the colors of your choice when the color you need isn't available.
How to insert a drawstring into a seam:
- Insert the presser foot to profile.
- Place the drawstring along the seam line on the right side of the fabric. Add the second piece of fabric, right sides against the right side of the previous one, the drawstring is in the middle.
- Place everything under the profiling foot, with the drawstring in the groove on the underside of the presser foot. Sew with straight stitch, length 2.5. The groove will guide the drawstring when sewing.
To cover the cord with fabric:
- Cut strips of fabric on the bias, or crosswise from the grain, wide enough to cover the drawstring, plus the seam allowance.
- Lay the cord on the wrong side of the strip to wrap it up.
- Place the cord thus wrapped under the foot to profile with the cord in the groove under the presser foot.
- Sew, the groove will guide the cord so that the fabric covers it evenly. Tip: When sewing a profile to a dress, adjust the position of the needle so that it sews one step closer to the cord to cover the previous seam.
